Scandinavian aquavit is not the first spirit that comes to mind when thinking about tropical tiki libations. However, Martin Cate managed to blend this distinct flavoured spirit into a fruity and indulgent cocktail seemingly with ease and the result is remarkable. Aquavit lays a solid foundation for the cocktail with unmistakable notes of caraway and anise, which are then paired with gentle sweet citrus of orange and vibrant fruitiness of pineapple. Lemon juice introduces a touch of bright and refreshing tartness later balanced by deep molasses of demerara syrup and almond nuttiness of orgeat. All in all, Norwegian Paralysis is a quite unique tiki cocktail with rather complex flavour profile. Delicious to the very last drop.
1. Combine all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. 2. Add ice and shake until chilled. 3. Strain into a cocktail glass over fresh cracked ice.
Garnish with skewered cherry, sprig of mint and an orange twist.
